Overview

Shanxi province is located in the central part of China near Beijing, Tianjin, Zhengzhou, Luoyang, Xi’an and Shijiazhuang, which has convenient land and air transport. A spatial transport network has been formed by the railway, highway and airline, which is very convenient for the tourists here.      

 The railways of Shanxi province include Tongpu line from Datong to Fenglingdu, Shitai line, Jingbao line, Jingyuan line, Taijiao line, Hanchang line, Daqin line and Shenhuang line which run through the province to most big and medium cities of China. With the opening of the high-speed rail Jingshi line, Taiyuan has been included in the two-hour economic circle of Beijing. This line is also connected to the Wuhan-Guangzhou passenger line and Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong passenger line which are being built now. When it is joined by the high-speed rail Shitai, Shanxi province can strengthen the connection with the area around Bohai, the middle China and Pearl River Delta Region. Combined with the high-speed rail from Taiyuan to Zhengzhou, Wuhan and Guangzhou as well as other railway lines in the mid-term plan, a reticular high-speed rail system will go through Taiyuan---the heart of Shanxi province.

Shanxi province has accomplished a lot in the construction of expressways according to the development plan of the expressway---“three vertical lines, eleven horizontal lines and eleven circular lines”. Now the whole traffic distance of the expressway has surpassed 5000km and a highway traffic network has been developed by 21 provincial exits and more than 100000 km long ordinary highways which ranks ahead in China. Now most scenic spots above 4A-class in Shanxi province can be reached through the expressway forming a 3-hour tourism circle which means that only 3 hours will be taken from Taiyuan to all the main scenic spots.

As for the civil aviation, there are four airports including Taiyuan, Datong, Yuncheng and Changzhi. Among them Wusu International Airport can meet the demand of landing requirement of airplanes like A380, and it also has direct flights from Taiyuan to more than 40 capitals of provinces and main cities of China. Regular flights from Taiyuan to Hong Kong and Taipei have been opened. International passenger charter flights from Taiyuan to Japan, South Korea, Thailand and Singapore have also been opened. 8 code sharing international flights including the flights from Taiyuan through Beijing to London, New York, San Francisco, Paris and Frankfurt and the flights from Taiyuan through Beijing to Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Penang. Datong Airport has opened flights to Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Xi’an, Wuhan, Zhengzhou, Haikou, Urumqi, Changchun and Nanjing. Wangcun Airport in Changzhi has direct flights to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Xi’an and Datong. Guangong Airport in Yuncheng has flights to Guangzhou, Taiyuan, Shenzhen and Tianjin and has become the aviation center of the southwest region of Jin.
