The three great figures Yao, Shun and Yu in the prehistoric time established their kingdom in Shanxi province. The feudal emperors in ancient China including the first King of Qin Dynasty, King Wu of Han Dynasty, King Taizong of Tang Dynasty who did special influential contributions to history all created their own great causes here both in literature and military. The fist king in Chinese feudal society Yingzheng went to Jin twice, and left his footprints in Taiyuan and Shangdang. The king of Han Dynasty Liuche, who controlled China for more than a half century, led his lords to honor Houtu in Hedong County, and wrote the famous poetry Lyrics of Autumn Wind. In the year of Zhenguan 19 of Tang Dynasty, the king Taizong Li Shimin stayed in Taiyuan for three months when he got back to Chang’an from the conquering war with Korea. Here in Taiyuan, he wrote the epigraph Motto and Preface of the Memorial Temple of Jin which embodies the style of Wang Xizhi, a great calligrapher in Dongjin Dynasty.
